  15. The file MPEGVIEW.EXE installs Xing Technology, Inc.'s Xingit! MPEG Player
  16. Software Demo for IBM 386/486 PC compatibles. This entire self-extracting
  17. (PKZIP 2.04g) archive may be freely distributed under the following
  18. conditions:
  19. 1 You may distribute copies of the entire original archive file as
  20.   archived by Xing Technology with its authorized authentication code;
  21. 2 You may change the file extension to .ZIP or .EXE as desired.

  30. INTRODUCING XING TECHNOLOGY

  32. Xing Technology Corporation, is an active participant in the international
  33. committee that established and defined the JPEG and MPEG standards. Xing
  34. develops, licenses, and applies data compression technology to multimedia

  52. INSTALLING THE XINGIT! MPEG PLAYER DEMO
  53.  
  54. The MPEGVIEW.EXE file is a self extracting ZIP file that contains the
  55. Xingit! MPEG Player Software Demo. To install the MPEG player:
  56. 1 Create a new directory on your hard drive and copy into it
  57.   the MPEGVIEW.EXE file.
  58. 2 Run the MPEGVIEW.EXE program from a DOS command line or from within Windows:
  59.   - to run it from a DOS command line, change to the directory that
  60.     contains the MPEGVIEW.EXE program and type "MPEGVIEW";
  61.   - to run it from within Windows, choose "Run" from the Program Manager's
  62.     "File" menu; the "Run" dialog appears; enter in the "Command Line" field
  63.     the full pathname of the MPEGVIEW.EXE program and click the "OK" button.
  64.   When the MPEGVIEW.EXE program is finished, the installation directory should
  65.   contain the following files:

  83. STARTING THE XINGIT! MPEG PLAYER DEMO

  85. The Xingit! MPEG Player Demo includes a Windows MPEG Player (DMFW.EXE)
  86. and a DOS MPEG Player (MPEG.EXE).
  87.  
  88. NOTE: Version 1.1 of the Xingit! MPEG Player can not play MPEG files
  89.       containing interframes ("B" and "P" frames). I-frame only MPEG
  90.       files are available on Xing's BBS. Version 1.2 of Xingit! will
  91.       support MPEG files containing interframes.
  92.  
  93. As with any Windows application, you can start the DMFW.EXE program in a number
  94. of ways, e.g, from the File Manager or with the "Run" command in the Program
  95. Manager's "File" menu. It is easiest to create a new Program Manager item for
  96. the DMFW.EXE program:
  97. 1 Start Windows and open the Program Manager window;
  98. 2 Choose "New" from the Program Manager's "File" menu; the "New Program
  99.   Object" window appears;
  100. 3 Select the "Program Item" radio button and click the "OK" button; the
  101.   "Program Item Properties" window appears;
  102. 4 Enter "Xingit! MPEG Player" in the "Description" field, enter the full pathname
  103.   of the DMFW.EXE program in the "Command Line" field, and enter the pathname of
  104.   the directory that contains the DMFW.EXE program in the "Working Directory"
  105.   field, and click the OK button; A new program item "Xingit! MPEG Player"
  106.   appears.
  107. 5 Double-click the "Xingit MPEG Player" icon to start the program.
  108.   The XingIt! MPEG player appears.
  109. You can now use the Xingit! MPEG Player as described in the programs' on-line
  110. help.

  112. To run the DOS version of the player (MPEG.EXE), change to the directory
  113. that contains the MPEG.EXE program and issue the following command:
  114. > MPEG MPEGFILENAME.MPG
  115.   Where "MPEGFILENAME" is the name of an MPEG video file.
  116. To see a complete usage description, issue the following command:
  117. > MPEG

  120. BOOSTING VIDEO PLAYBACK PERFORMANCE
  121. The Xingit! MPEG Player uses a Windows Bitmap driver to communicate with your
  122. PC's video hardware and quickly playback video data on your computer's monitor.
  123. This Device Independent Bitmap (DIB) driver is active by default, so the Player
  124. works with any Windows-compatible video hardware. To achieve even faster playback
  125. of video sequences you can disable the DIB driver and use one of Xingit's direct
  126. drivers. These high-speed drivers communicate directly with many popular video
  127. boards.

  129. To disable the Xingit! MPEG Player's DIB driver and select a direct driver:
  130. 1 Make sure "Use DIB" item is unchecked in the Player's "View" menu.
  131. 2 Choose an appropriate entry from the "Video Driver" item in the Player's
  132.   "View" menu.
  133.    If the player recognizes your PC's video driver, it displays your driver's
  134.    name at the bottom of the "Video Driver" menu with the label "Detected."
  135. 3 Choose "Save Xingit! Preferences" from the "Preferences" menu.

  137. The following direct video drivers are currently provided with the Xingit!
  138. MPEG Player (actual compatibility has not been tested with all of the listed
  139. boards and is assumed):

  168. If your PC's video driver does not appear in this list, you must use
  169. one of Xingit!'s device independent bitmap (DIB) driver.

  171. NOTE FOR USERS WITH COMPAQ Q-VISION VIDEO
  172. The Xing Video drivers embedded within MPEG320.DLL & MPEG160.DLL
  173. are compatible for operation with the Compaq Advanced VGA, with which
  174. QVision boards are backward compatible. But, you cannot use
  175. QVision Windows drivers with our video file. Rather you must ensure
  176. that the Advanced VGA driver is installed for the QVision adapter board.

  178. 1 The Windows video driver installed via the windows SETUP icon should
  179.   first be changed to the CPQAVGA.DRV driver. If this cannot be done
  180.   within the SETUP program of Windows, you must accomplish this by
  181.   manually editing the SYSTEM.INI file:
  182.     Look in SYSTEM.INI and locate the parameter
  183.       display.drv=QVISION8.DRV
  184.     and change it to
  185.       display.drv=CPQAVGA.DRV
  186.   Using the display driver disk supplied by COMPAQ, locate the file
  187.   CPQAVGA.DRV and copy it to the \SYSTEM subdirectory of your \WINDOWS
  188.  
  189. 2 Using the COMPAQ supplied utility program CPQSETUP.EXE it will be
  190.   necessary to assure that the D/A converter (DAC) is selected to 8-bit
  191.   operation.

  194.   the Xing Video driver for Compaq
  195.     select:   View - Video Driver - Compaq AVGA.
